Its was written in 2017 and I think kids will identify with the characters and situations. I am not sure a kid would pick this up by themselves though. If my kid was being bullied, or being a bully, I would certainly recommend reading it. The characters deal with all aspects of growing up form bullying to changing friends and schools, to trying desperately to 'find their tribe'. It would be a great read for an English class because it offers good discussion points and the characters do some fun social activities that could be used in any school to bolster kindness and empathy. I listened to the audio book and the reader does a good job, so if you don't have a strong reader its totally worth a listen. Show less

Their teachers, who often times used the library as an opportunity to grade papers or catch up on other tasks, would often put all that aside to listen along. Its a sweet book about being a team and, at least for me, what makes a family. Show less
