To my knowledge this is the first of Mick Herron's publisher works,. I had started with his Slow Horse spy series, and while waiting for another novel to appear in that fine series, I went back and read Down Cemetery Road. This work is a fascinating nascent work by a very fine author. In it you can find the beginnings of his style- quick witted but not nearly as much as the Slow Horse series, convoluted plot twists, and overlapping points of view from the principal characters Perhaps he relies a bit to much in coincidence, but it is a fun read, nonetheless. Herron has a unique way with similes, metaphors and adjectival description that is better used in his later works, but it's fun to see developing in his early novels.
