Stronger world building than the first book, characters also come further into their own. Given to philosophizing in a way that is occasionally insufferable but more often thought-provoking, which I consider a strong point for the genre. The romance plot also seems more solid, and I appreciate how the ending balances the drives for justice and mercy with respect to such a morally grey cast. The timeline may not work out, but it's still a promising second novel for the author.
