“Wonder” by R.J Palacio is about a 10 year boy born with a facial deformity that and the challenges he experiences when enrolled in a public school. August Pullman is enrolled into a public school after his parents decide that it would be best for him. He was previously home schooled. He experiences the same issues as most kids do like bullying and making friends although these challenges are magnified due to his facial deformity. This story also does a great job showing the viewpoints of others that were the closest to August like his sister, and friends. This helps tell the story and helps us understand what others feel like that are around him. It can also help us understand what family members of children with disability’s feel and how they are affected by it. August with the support of his family and friend, overcomes the challenges of middle school and has a successful first yer of middle school as well as getting new friends This book shows us why it is important to have dignity and respect for others even if they have a disability or a re different than us. A great read to understand the lives of others and how we affect others through decisions that we make towards others. 10/10 @Sportsreader03 of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board “Wonder”, written by R. J. Palacio, is an extremely heart touching and eye opening book. Auggie Pullman is an ordinary boy, but was born with a different face, and faces many problems in society because of that. Up until Grade 5, Auggie did not attend a regular public school because he was worried about how others would treat him, and when he did build up enough courage to finally go to school, his classmates just wouldn’t stop judging him by his face. By reading this book, you can almost see what it feels like when you get bullied for something you can’t control, because most of this book is written in Auggie’s perspective. This book really teaches the readers a lesson to be kind and to not discriminate against anyone for the way they look, or for anything else that someone can’t control about themselves. Along with being educational, this book is also very entertaining, and I would recommend it to all audiences. I rate this book a 4.5 out of 5. @Rose of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board I'm a big fan of movies and would much rather watch a movie over reading a book (I only read books If I have to). I came across the movie Wonder and really fell in love with the description of the movie so I gave it a try, this movie ended up being one of my all-time favorites! The fact that this movie impacted me so much it made me want to try out the book, I read the book and it gave me an even deeper connection to the movie and in fact, I liked the book more. I've read it more than once and will most likely read it again because the moral of this story is very important. This book could spike a few triggers for people but if you look into it before you read it you should be able to figure out if it is for you or not. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a read you can connect with and feel, I also recommend this book to people who may not like to read as much as they like movies. I rate this book a 5/5. @moviefan of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
