It's stories like this that remind us of humanity. Told from the perspective of the almost-eight-year-old girl, the journey Elsa embarks upon will have you laughing out loud, thinking, smiling and engage at a deep emotional level. Use of fairy tale metaphors such as the Land of the Almost awake, along with funny yet appropriate nicknames for the characters, Backman has written a masterpiece, which in my opinion is FAR better than "A Man Called Ove". The author keeps the reader engaged throughout Elsa's journey shedding light not only on her Mother's past, but more importantly Granny who she comes to know far better in spite of her being no longer around. This is a must read for anyone that loves great storytelling. Characters are well developed, pace is perfect while the heart warming humor will bring belly laughs and feelings of Joy!
