Considering the fact that he's basically playing himself here, I was expecting a lot more than I got. āā
3* acting good but long dragged out boring movie.
Although the performance of Ben Affleck appears great, the poorly scripted film doesn't really show how this alcoholic man motivates the members to become the winning team.
The Affleck brothers have done a couple of movies where there is a family death that breaks up the husband and wife. Casey Affleck with "Manchester by the Sea" and Ben Affleck with "The Way Back". I'll have to admit I got teary-eyed at times in this movie. If any movie gets me teary-eyed these days I'll have to give it a thumbs up.
This movie is quite boring: it's slow-paced, and I lost interest at times.
Boring, enlivened only by the basketball scenes. Ben Affleck is better behind the camera. I'm giving it 3 stars only because of the effort the kids put into acting out their parts on and off the court.
We thought it was a fine movie a B-. Goes beyond just being an alcoholic, shows why a person who has gone through trauma in their life needs to find a good therapist to get their head on straight.
A very dramatic film which shows that anything good is possible with will power!
Ben Affleck back on his game.
