"Dangerous and driven private investigator Charlie Parker returns in the latest gripping thriller of internationally bestselling author John Connolly's series, in which ungodly fears haunt a strange and isolated community. Jerome Burnel was once a hero. He intervened to prevent multiple killings, and in doing so destroyed himself. His life was torn apart. He was imprisoned, brutalized. But in his final days, with the hunters circling, he tells his story to private detective Charlie Parker. He speaks of the girl who was marked for death, but was saved; of the ones who tormented him, and an entity that hides in a ruined stockade. Parker is not like other men. He died, and was reborn. He is ready to wage war. Now he will descend upon a strange, isolated community called the Cut, and face down a force of men who rule by terror, intimidation, and murder. All in the name of the being they serve. All in the name of the Dead King"-- Provided by publisher.

Has certainly been bringing out more of the supernatural element since The Wolf in Winter, especially here. Surprising how little Charlie Parker is actually in this book but John Connelly always tells a good story.

I chose this book according to other reader's high ratings & gave up after 3 chapters! I found the storyline to be quite juvenile
& ridiculous !

This was the first John Connolly book I have checked out. It was on the Express Shelf and, wow, what a story and what interesting characters! I'm signing up as a fan and will read all the Charlie Parker books. I checked out Bad Men while I was still reading A Time of Torment - Charlie Parker appears as a minor walk-on in a couple of passages. Connolly introduces Macy in Bad Men and references her in a Time of Torment which makes for a satisfying interweave between books not even in the same series.

Excellent addition to the Charlie Parker series.

I love this series, John Connolly is a true master, his painting of evil in all its horror and ugliness and the choices that men make to follow it is brilliant. His antiheros Parker Louis and Angel are outstanding this is the best Charlie Parker story yet. Am most excited for the next book, I hope he does another about Angel and Louis, and I am most curious about how he intends to portray Sam growth shell be a force to reckon with even stronger than her father.

This book is a great addition to this very dark series, featuring an appealing and tormented protagonist and two of the most fascinating sidekicks in noir mysteries.

Connolly maintains a nice balance between a detective plot and the supernatural. Evil is always real and strong in the Connolly books, and the forces of good are nuanced and sympathetic. A new installation in this series is always a big reading event for me.
