Ok - confession. I've never seen any Star Trek before - ever! Another confession, I'm only 3 episodes into this series and I'm HOOKED! Each episode has ended with a manageable but still intense cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more. As a complete newbie to Star Trek, I LOVE it!

Star Trek's non-movies have gone through multiple reinventions, none of which have had any consistency regarding quality. In this revival, the costumes and some of the sets are the best part of the series. The acting/dialogue ranged from great to not so great and at the end of Season 1 the set speech from Michael Burnham is a clanger. To sum up, there are flashes of high entertainment and also flashes of cliche hackness which is par for the Star Trek canon.

As a Trek fan from day 1, I am very very disappointed in this. It’s supposed to be a decade before TOS, yet the technology is far more advanced than a century later in STNG??? Please! If they wanted to make it more futuristic, they should have placed it farther in the future! Not recycling old characters from the past, & making them fundamentally different than their history.
And what they did to the Klingons is just unforgivable. They turned a proud & noble people into hideous monsters with no honor.
They really should have just created an original story to house their new tech, rather than reinventing the past & banking on the Star Trek name to sell it.

Terrible- I gave this show a chance but there are so many plot holes and improbable things happening I couldn't make it past four episodes. 0 stars. Avoid even if you a fan of the Star Trek universe.

This is easily one of the strongest debut seasons of a Star Trek show. A dynamic show that finally gives Star Trek the aesthetic overhaul that it needed to compete with modern science fiction productions while still engaging the various social and political themes that has always been the center of Star Trek storytelling. Some will say it's too CGI or too politically correct, but that's disingenuous and ignores that Roddenberry himself continuously tried to update the looks of his shows with the times of production, and that Roddenberry pushed very hard to address and tackle numerous contemporary issues. This is the show that Roddenberry would have wanted had he still been alive with us, in fact, he would have pushed for even more overt social and political themes that certain viewers want to ignore. Discovery is very much a Star Trek story for the modern age, and its cast of actors hit the ground running in delivering powerful performances. This is a Trek series to be proud of.

As a Star Trek fan, I'm disappointed by the wooden acting and telegraphed writing and plot points. Every 15 minutes is an annoying artificial build up in music and "tension", typical of TV productions.

In general I like stuff from the sci-fi genre. But this one simply failed to engage me. Plenty of wooden acting, and aliens are humans wearing ugly rubber masks. I gave it 1/2 hr. jumping through the scenes and decided it is just not my cup of tea. Disappointing.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha....This new Star Trek series is sooo laughable. I had high hopes for something great with this series only to get episode after episode of cliched dialogue spewed from every character, and it only got worse as the episodes went on. I felt sorry for the actors who had to deliver this rubbish. What every happen to boldly going where no writer has gone before? The only highlights of this show were the set designs and the Klingons. At least their dialogue was believable.

I thought at first it would be a dud, but like many of the new series of ST over the years, it improved with age. On the last 4 episodes I am beginning to find it interesting. I am a trekkie, present from the beginning.

Very exciting and well-made Star Trek series. Excellent special effects for a TV show (only on streaming via CBS All Access). The pendulum has swung to the opposite extreme: In Star Trek, the original series, the strong characters were typically male and the females were by and large secondary. In the 21st century version the reverse is true. The strong characters are almost invariably female, and the males are shown as weaker, needing to be taken care of by the females, with few exceptions. Since ST-D takes place 10 years before the original series, it would appear that during that decade the Federation became sexist and misogynistic by the time Captain Kirk arrived! Despite the societal correctness of the current series, it is still very good, a worthy addition to the pantheon of ST versions around.

Great show! I have watched every series and this is the best since Deep Space 9. Wonderful acting and top notch storytelling. If you’re a Star Trek fan you’ll absolutely love this show! Can’t wait to see season two.
