This movie was kinda crazy, but it wasn't bad. I like the theme behind the Purge franchise. I do
recommend watching the screenwriter's (he has also directed 2 or 3 of the other Purge films
and is active with the Purge tv series) interviews about how he came up with this idea. You get a better understanding of the theme's topic, and what kind of consequences follow if this situation would ever occur in real life. Anyway, I think this movie did a good job laying the groundwork for the future sequels.

It’s more of a horror than a dystopia. Interesting concept. But the villains in the movie were unrealistic. No person with a grain of sense would risk their life to purge (murder). Once it became obvious that the family was going to fight back and already killed one of their gang, the villains would have backed off to find easier prey. Instead, these villains are dead set on killing this family despite having no personal vendetta against them.

Solid movie, Ethan Hawke and the rest of the cast were good.

This is a pretty good show! The start was pretty exciting besides the fact that this would be pretty much impossible to happen. The movie was exciting at the start because you thought that lots of action would happen. The problem was that the actual action part only lasted like 10 minutes so it wasn’t very suspenseful and that the ending of the movie was completely predictable. However this movie made you think, what would you do in the Purge (i’d Probably just leave the country for that week) it also makes you think how good a person are you? Would you risk your family’s life for a person you don’t know or not? This was an interesting show still though!

Really suspenseful horror movie, even if the plot is somewhat weak.

Pretty good. I wouldn't consider this a horror movie. But it certainly did a good job keeping the movie intense. It really doe's scare you, can you imagine if the plot of the movie was real?

Sometimes it's crappy pop movies that seem to capture the zeitgeist, and "The Purge" trilogy (Look for the 4th next year!) has somehow done so. "Black-ish" even had an episode inspired by it. It's a semi-decent premise, which perhaps goes back to Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery." The premise, as many have noted, is undone by the writing, which has numerous plot holes. Like why would a home security expert (Ethan Hawke) not have a backup generator or a panic room? It has some tense moments, but much of the action is muddled because it's dark. Lena Headey ("Game of Thrones") co-stars. The best part was when they purged.

The Purge is a heart-stopping, perfectly scripted, and must watch for people less sensitive to horror and violence. The Purge is set on a philosophy that by allowing all crimes for 12 hours the United States can release its violence in one night and kill citizens of the lower class. In the movie this idea is portrayed as if it is reality which really makes you question if something like this could really happen. This movie focuses on an upper-class family, which lets you prepare with them for the purge. The moment the sirens go off, nervousness sweeps through the air. Trust me when I say that you will be entertained every minute of the movie. Stop reading this review, play the movie, then thank me when you are done. I rate The Purge a perfect 5/5! @UniquePerspective of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

The First Purge, I give this movie a 5 out of 5, I love this movie because it goes to the first-ever purge as you can tell from the title, it is good. This movie is very gory, and I don't recommend this for children, it has a lot of violence. And I am in love with it. I don't find it a scary movie, I find it more of a thriller but it is an amazing movie. As someone who has watched these movies in a whole marathon, I can say that all the purge movies are great from beginning to end. From the trailer, I wasn't sure if this one was going to be good, but it is great, and I hope you watch this franchise because it is amazing. The acting is amazing every scene is something new and it has many plot twists and turns, and it leaves me in awe. My favorite moment in this movie is the last scene/ battle it is amazing and so meaningful I am in love with it. Many people don't like this movie from this franchise, but I find that it is such a good movie. I recommend this movie to people who are in love with all the other Purge movies just like how I am.

I’m glad I watched the 3rd part of this trilogy first. The 1st part then made more sense and I look forward to watching the 2nd part. The general idea was that “Purge Night” encouraged the right/white/male citizens to declare war on those they deemed inferior by nature of gender, race, religion, etc. while encouraging the poor to wipe each other out. I encourge you to watch Purge - Election Night. In a year when Donald Trump wins the presidency partially thanks to a campaign that has played to the very worst instincts of people who otherwise might consider themselves good and decent; The Purge: Election Year ends up being in effect, a warning call.

Mary Sandin: We are gonna play the rest of this night out in motherfucking peace. Does anyone have a problem with that?

Announcer TOMMY: Thanks, Nicole. Now, is the Purge really about releasing aggression and containing violence, or is it something else? Purge detractors often postulate this evening is actually about the elimination of the poor, the needy, the sick. Those unable to defend themselves. The eradication of the so called "non-contributing members" of society, ultimately unburdening the economy. Is the Purge really about money? Either way, crime is down. The economy is flourishing…

Announcer: This is not a test. This is your Emergency Broadcast System announcing the commencement of the Annual Purge sanctioned by the U. S. Government. Weapons of Class Four and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity from the Purge and shall not be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Police, fire and emergency medical services will be unavailable ...
