My 5 year old loved this book. I was worried that some of the subject matter would be a bit heavy for her and of course while it's not shown directly they do have illustration for when Malala gets shot (something I missed when I first flipped through the book) but my daughter understood the story of triumph and the biggest concern for her was that there were people in the world who didn't want her to have an education but she knows that's not fair or a good rule because she likes school and it's good for her, she was glad and proud that there are people in the world sticking up for her girls rights to learn and has expressed the will that she would fight anyone who wanted to take away her right to go to school.
It's pretty safe to say that Malala is now one of her hero figures.
This beautifully written and illustrated book is a great introduction for kids to learn about Malala Yousafzai's story. It will definitely inspire the reader to learn more about her life and activism.
