The writing is decent, but the author`s autobiographical character is rather unlikeable (he`s described as a ninote, or adolescent) and vacuous, and his wife rather neurotic. Note: the author did attend the Oaxaca book fair in Nov 2016.

Francisco Goldman's 'Say Her Name' is a tear-jerking, heartfelt love letter dedicated to his wife. We see him begin to cope with his grief and in reminiscing, uses his frustrations and hurts to propel him to live through and for all the things that she meant to him, and in a way, to accomplish the things she wanted to do.

Narratively, this is the story of the author who marries a Mexican student, 20 years younger than him. She dies in a freak accident and he is blamed for her dealth by her devoted mother. It is a novel of the their life together and the author deals with his grief by writing. I could not decide if the book were self-indulgent and sad or if it says somthing about love.

"Say Her Name, Goldman’s sublime and heart-rending new book, hovers somewhere between fiction and non-fiction, between memoir and novel, the present and the past, and the world of the living and the world of the dead.... A book about loss and grief and the attendant “guilt, shame, and dread, on an endless loop,” Say Her Name is also an unforgettable love story, a testament to a great love and love’s greatness."
