Passions flare and tempers rise when three couples cross paths at a country house one weekend. It all begins with the arrival of Reg and his wife, Sarah. They've come to give Reg's younger sister, Annie, a few days' break from caring for their bedridden mother. However, Annie confides that she's seeing someone, not Tom, the single young vet who's pursuing her, but her brother-in-law, Norman. Appalled, Sarah informs Norman's wife, Ruth, and all hell breaks loose. Ayckbourn's trilogy tells the same weekend story from three different vantage points in the house and garden, and can be watched in any order.

Rated 1/10. Boring, dreadfully boring! If you like non-stop yakking in one area, like a stage play, you'll probably love this one.

Sad to say, after nearly 40 years since I first saw this, it's not holding up any longer. What I first perceived as witty Brit repartee is now a combination of mean-spiritedness, obnoxiousness, and ultimately boring self absorption. I wonder what I saw in it back in the late '70's that I made it a point to see it about every 10 years. That's not going to happen again.

Brilliant performances on all three versions as they all add something else to the previous watched version. They don't have to be watched in any particular order but I found watching disc 1 first provided me with a good overview of the whole narrative. It's very funny at times as well as very dramatic in a greatly entertaining way that only British productions can be!
