This trans-nothing documentary is shallow and pretentious.

I can't imagine why any filmmaker would have to bother to go all the way down to Puerto Rico in order encourage a bunch of lonely and bored trans-men (who are crying for attention) to brag about how wonderful it is to wear pretty dresses and put on gobs of make-up.

I wouldn't waste my time with this utter nonsense.

Directed by Antonio Santini and Dan Sickles in 2014, this 87-minute documentary looks into the lives of transexuals in Puerto Rico.
It provides a thought-provoking look at where gender identity and cultural identity intersect while showing that life still revolves around the search for selfhood and the love between friends.
Amazing and amusing!

Not being a transgendered/transvestite man, myself - I guess that I must have completely missed the whole point of this gender-bender documentary from Puerto Rico.

'Cause what I found was that not only did this presentation come across as being totally shallow and frivolous beyond words.

But, it certainly didn't convince me that playing dress-up and emulating tarty-looking women could ever really bring about any inner-satisfaction to any rational-thinking man. Ever.

This Puerto Rican vanity production only seemed to be concerned about highlighting the glamorous superficiality of being a transgender/transvestite male where vamping-it-up, putting on pretty dresses, and applying one's mascara, thick & heavy, was life's ultimate delight.

As expected - "Mala Mala" didn't go anywhere near the cold, hard truth of reality regarding suicide where (when it comes to the trans-community) self-destruction rates are (percentage-wise) one of the highest in the adult world.
