a May afternoon in 1943, an American military plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared. It was that of a young lieutenant, the plane's bombardier, who was struggling to a life raft and pulling himself aboard. So began one of the most extraordinary sagas of the Second World War.

wow! what an incredible book. I enjoyed reading this version as it was a faster paced read (for my book club). I am at a lost for words. I could not believe how the Japanese treated the POW's and how some of these men even survived. I was so angry at the japanese that I was hitting and yelling at the book. lol. This story has given me more appreciation to the men that have fought in wars so we could have and enjoy the freedom we experience today. Saw the trailer for the movie. Definitely going to watch it

I think everyone (including the younger generation) needs to read this book. Then they can fully appreciate what war vets went through. We are very lucky that we will never have to experience this

Wow, i loved this book. So much detail that i was never aware of. Really an amazing insight into what our war vets went through. I had no idea that Japan was so brutal towards the POW's.
Recommend for sure.

This is the young adult version of the popular adult book of the same name. The language is more appropriate.

This is the young adult version of the popular adult book of the same name. Highly recommend it for young adults/middle school age children. Also, I would recommend it for adults who want to a faster pace read. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie!

What a story. To think there is forgiveness involved. Unlike some cultures who carry grudges forever. Not sure if I will be able to watch movie.
