I enjoyed this book! At times it made me laugh out loud (which surprised other people on the bus). The main character is Adam, who is a 25-year-old minister on his first assignment at a church in a small town in central Texas. Other characters include Miss Birdie, a 70-year-old woman who is a pillar of the church (and who thinks Adam needs a lot of guidance); Sam, a veteran of the Afghanistan war who has lost a leg (and who lost his best friend at the same time); Willow, a divorced physical therapist with two young sons who break an expensive window at Sam’s home; and many more.
This book is sweet—I liked the characters and I enjoyed the plot, some of which was predictable, but it was fun getting there. I enjoyed the book enough to look up the author and discover that there are two sequels to this book (at least so far). Seattle Public Library has #3 but not #2, so I have requested that they purchase #2. I want to know what happens to these nice people in the later books!
This book is not great literature, but it is pleasant and fun, and a great escape from the news of the day.
