In between cigarette commercials, some Keystone cops dressed as the US Military lose a German diplomat or something.

✅ Plenty of twists and turns in this postwar film noir, one of the small subgenre of "rubble films," which had the backdrop of ruined cities in the defeated Axis nations. This one had a lot of shots in Frankfurt and Berlin, although sometimes the stars looked like they were in process shots with a screen behind them. This film beat Billy Wilder's romance-comedy-rubble film "A Foreign Affair" to the theatres by a month or two. It was made during a brief window before the Cold War, when it looked like there might be a hope of cooperation with the Soviets, and it shows.
Good performances by all, especially Robert Ryan as the American "agricultural specialist" (how did he avoid the draft, one must wonder) in a spy caper over his head, and Indian-born Merle Oberon, who claimed to have been born in Tasmania. After she died it was revealed that her big sister, twelve years older than Merle, was actually her mother.

Film Noir with old scenes of world past great for audience that enjoy the untainted world of today. The actors make the story follow with acting not with current simulation affects.
For those that like the real deal of film making.

The film takes place in the urban ruins in Germany shortly after WWII. It deals with some underground characters secretly planning to make the new Germany into some kind of nefarious country rather than a Western styled democracy. Characters from USA, Germany, France, Britain, and Russia try to foil the plans of the “bad” Germans. Lead actress Merle Oberon (most of her films made in Hollywood, but not this one) lived her life with the secret that she was Anglo-Indian, not 100% Caucasian. Because of Hollywood racism, she would never have been allowed to act in “white” films.

Don't consider this "B Movie" as anything other than a work of art. It is filmed on location just after World War II in Berlin and Frankfurt. To say the least this is a once in a lifetime location to film a spy movie. At just over 60 minutes, "Berlin Express" will keep you in suspense. Expect Merle Oberon to surprise you as a German secretary. A young Robert Ryan plays a great part in fighting "die hard Nazi's" still working in post war Germany. A great piece of film work that many may have missed!

This moves easily and smartly along. Like The 3rd Man, it documents w/ pictures of post WWII Europe.

old fashioned in a bad way - stilted and sentimental - several good cast members
