Too much focus on a human element. The human element is not well executed. Kong; Skull Island is a better take on the giant monster theme; the first Pacific Rim is also a better version of the giant monster genre.

This movie was truly a monster hit when it hit theatres, but it could have done better for me. Godzilla 2014 was your typical giant monster movie, only to have less of the monster, and more of the man. The majority of the film had your human characters talking to each other, and only at the end was there the monster fight, and the fight itself was not that good. Sure when Godzilla shot his atomic breath inside the Muto's mouth was dog-on amazing, but the setting was so dark that it might take you a little long to see what the heck is happening. I believe the movie could have been better if it shown more monster action, and take a more lighter approach. Then again, the human characters were pretty good, with Eric Brody losing his mother in an early age, and spending the whole movie trying to get back home to his family. Also when he looked up at Godzilla when the giant monster was weakened, you could feel some mutual understanding with the two. So in my opinion, Godzilla 2014 was a pretty good movie in some regards, but it kinda lost its meaning of being a FLIPPIN GIANT MONSTER MOVIE!!!!!!!!!! 3.5/5. @BooksRUs of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

I really did not like this movie very much. Personally, the main reason why I did not like it was that it was just boring. The characters didn't seem to interest me and honestly, I didn't even like the storyline. In my opinion, for any movie and even to be considered good it must have the element of surprise, and this movie did not. But one thing I did like was the animations in the film. There weren't even that many action scenes in this film and that is something you would expect in this film. I don't recommend this movie, but if people were to watch it, I would recommend ages 13 and over. I give this movie a 2 out of 5 stars @terrificbooklover of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I'm a huge Godzilla fan and was surprisingly entertained by this after the disaster that was the 1998 version. (BTW I loved how the Japanese mocked the 1998 Godzilla. It was awesome seeing that one get knocked into the Sydney Opera House!)

There wasn't enough of the G-man himself; a lot of the giant monster action came from MUTO, the monsters that Godzilla fought, and the filmmakers tease with glimpses of Godzilla WAY too much before actually showing Godzilla doing his thing. However, when we finally DO get to see Godzilla duke it out with MUTO, we very much see why Godzilla's called the King of the Monsters. Also, if you look in the background, you'll catch sight of Mothra. I love that nod to one of my favorite Godzilla monsters and I hope we'll get to see her in the future.

I also wish we got more Bryan Cranston than we did. The movie wasted a perfectly interesting character who I definitely think should have been the lead. From what we see of him in the beginning, the movie really should have been his story, not Kickass's.

But, like I said, the action was enjoyable and the fights were fun to watch. I like this adaptation of Godzilla and I'm happy to see that they got him right this time around.

Moved a little slow for me, but overall I thought it was faithful to the Godzilla films of the past.

Remains true to the source while highlighting the scaleability of violence

The great generation gave us toasters and the bomb.

The baby boomers gave us outsourcing, self-medication, and a bigger bomb.

Gen-X gave us perpetual servitude, 65 inch screens, the dotcombubble, and credit default swaps.

Violence, like material crappification is logarithmic.

Who doesn't like generational strife guised as giant monster fights?

More about the people than the monster. Good movie. Good cast.

This Godzilla movie is too balanced. Yes the graphics is nice but it is a bit lenthy wait watching for Godzilla to wrestle and win against the evil monsters Mutos. The main character should have been Godzilla but the evil monsters and people were all treated like main characters. Too balanced for my liking it much.

Possibly the best Godzilla film ever made! This is how Godzilla would look if he was real. Cant wait for the next one Godzilla 2 !

Well, it was marginally better than that comedy version with Matthew Broderick.
Don't expect great drama from skyscraper-size monster movies. I also agree that Godzilla played peek-a-boo throughout the film.

With its predictable PG-13 rating - Godzilla was yet another humdrum, Hollywood production that used the lame excuse of a rampaging, over-sized monster in order to grind "family values" into the viewer's face, non-stop.

If you ask me - All that this $160 million movie amounted to was just a sickening family soap opera where big, brave daddy (your typical combat hero/G.I. Joe type) goes to the most ridiculous lengths imaginable in order to rescue his darling, little wifey and his precious, little sonny-boy. And, believe me, it was all pretty revolting stuff. Yep. It sure was.

And, speaking about Godzilla's role in this disappointing movie - Personally, I found the monster battle scenes (which were always filmed in near-darkness) to be so badly staged (and downright clumsy at times) that they actually came across like slapstick comedy, rather than their intended "dead-serious".

All-in-all - Godzilla was nothing but pure, recycled family fluff, from start to finish.

M.U.T.O. - Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism. It is, however, no longer terrestrial, it is airborne. Now, the world still thinks this was an earthquake and it would be preferable that that remain so. Before we lost sight of it, it was heading East across the Pacific and had emitted enough EMP disruption to create havoc with our radar and satellite feeds and reduce us, for the moment, to a strictly visual pursuit. I emphasize "for the moment," because we will get on our game and we will find this thing. It is imperative that we do so.
