A rambunctious dark comedy. An unbalanced but alluring former mental patient takes a B-movie porn star prisoner in the hopes of convincing her to marry him. A highly unconventional romance that came on the spike heels of Almodovar's international sensation Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, this is a splashy, sexy central work in the career of one of the world's most beloved and provocative auteurs.
(FILMAFFINITY)

A delicious romantic dark comedy with Victoria Abril and Antonio Banderas, both about 30 in 1990. Caught myself LOL in the painfully sexy scene which made the film controversial. The pair of featured Spanish songs were both enjoyable: “Canción del alma (Song of the Soul)”” sung by Loles León and the closing carpool karaoke “Resistire (I will resist)” by León and Banderas. Rated NC-17. More details and pro reviews in “Summary.”

Hard to believe the story of this one, but it is Almie. shed your inhibitions, loosen your belt, and prepare to have a real good time. the second disc has the cast singing an upbeat inspiring song called Resistire!, that I particularly enjoyed, as it was live.

I've never seen a story quite like this. Became slightly predictable, but I was still enthralled by it. It was great to see such a young Antonio Banderas! Who doesn't love a strange foreign film??

I enjoyed this. Light-hearted, feel-good stuff. You know all along that the ending will be happy.

A rather silly and vulgar film, but well made.

“Canción del alma = Song of the Soul” sung by Loles León (Lyrics per English subtitles):
La la la la … la la …
I know you understand
The heaviness in my heart
When I’m at your side
My sorrow disappears
I’ll do anything you want
The fault will all be yours
For my heart is waiting
Waiting for you once more
How did I ever bear
Being so long without you
How did I ever wait
How did I hold on
You know that deep inside
I’m desperate and sad
Ever since you left
Life has lost all meaning
La la la la la …
