How real does life become when you put it in front of a camera? This documentary looks at life in France at a moment in the lives of people in general and people in particular. The proliferation of reality TV in contemporary life makes this film quite relevant. It's refreshing to see the self-awareness of both the filmmakers and those whose lives are examined in greater detail. The supplements are also of interest, to provide context and insight. I don't know if this film is the first of its kind, but it has an admirable air of sincerity and lack of pretense about it.
