"Being the adventures of a young man who couldn't resist pretty girls, or a bit of the old ultra-violence, who went to jail, was re-conditioned, and came out a different young man. Or was he?" So might opine your humble narrator, Alex. Alex and his droogs Georgie, Dim, and Pete are bored. Alex loves Ludwig van, milk bars, and mayhem. One night a botched burglary ends in murder. Apprehended by the police, Alex is tried, sentenced, and sent to prison for fourteen years. Two years into his sentence, he signs up for The Ludovico Treatment, and is released as cured. However, the world is a harsh and violent place, and now Alex is unable to defend himself. O my brothers, what will happen to poor Alex now?

Directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1971 based on Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel of the same name, this dystopian crime drama focuses on violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs, and other social, political, and economic subjects in a dystopian near-future Britain.
Although disturbing with sexual violence and ideological mess, it turns out a thought-provoking dystopian nightmare with a very dark sense of humor.

A Clockwork Orange is one of Kubrick's best films and that's saying a lot. Every frame of this film is like a painting. The set design is astounding. The scenes are iconic. The acting is intense and surreal. The music is chilling. The overall vibe of the film is like no other I've ever seen. It's one of my favorite films and one of the best films ever made. I recommend it for anyone who doesn't mind an intense adult film

A Clockwork Orange is a masterpiece of sex, ultra-violence, and the lovely Beethoven.Stanley Kubrick provides a black-comedy with Malcolm McDowell playing the " lovable " psychopath Alex Delarge.

A mind shattering experience with its exaggerated violence and outrageous vulgarity.

Saw this film years ago and thought it was great and re-watched it recently and couldn't stand it. The violence I found shocking years ago just seems laughable now. There's nothing I like about it now. I was shocked how much I didn't like it now but to me this movie doesn't hold up well over time. It's a dud.

Unpopular opinion, but I turned this off within 23 minutes. Vulgar, violent, and just not for me. I was honestly bored.

Dated. Over-rated. I hate it.

I finally decided to watch the film though I resisted after having listened to the audiobook (which was excellent!). Although it departs significantly from the book, especially about the ending, it holds together very well as a movie. The use of lingo from book is selectively used, much of it left out, and the violent scenes are relatively brief. There is a lot more nudity in it than I expected, and the actresses that appear in the nude are much more attractive than some of the biggest Hollywood stars today (Aniston, Jolie, Roberts, Berry, among others). Many of the scenes are cleverly (and cheekily) shot - although almost fifty years old, it has aged very well. Its entertaining, at moments funny, and its moral upshot - though demented through the changed ending - is clear enough.

Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess's famous novel is a masterpiece. Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums . While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary.
A Clockwork Orange works on many levels--visual, social, political, and sexual--and is one of the few films that hold up under repeated viewings. Kubrick not only presents colorfully arresting images, he also stylizes the film by utilizing classical music (and Wendy Carlos's electronic classical work) to underscore the violent scenes, which even today are disturbing in their display of sheer nihilism. Ironically, many fans of the film have missed that point, sadly being entertained by its brutality rather than being repulsed by it.

Ultra violence!!! Very poignant look violence in society and what to do about it. You may not agree with the final outcome, but you will enjoy it! Some of the scenes will affect the squeemish. Malcolm McDowell is brillant!

Setting: London, sometime in the future.

Alex and his fellow teenage droogs (gang) engage in some rather violent ways to pass the time of day; and for no apparent reason other than their ill-sorted ideas of amusement. Until Alex is caught, and then the State steps in to set things right. But is the State's solution worse than the crime? O my brothers, that is the question.

Now hold on to your seat, the going may be a little rough, as Alex, Pete, Georgie, and Dim, Dim being really dim, gather at the Karova Milk Bar, their favorite Milk-Plus Mesto, for the purpose of making up their rassodocks what to do for the evening.

What's it going to be then, eh?
