I picked up this book on a lark and was pleasantly surprised. It's a coming of age memoir by an Arab-American woman. It's well written, funny in parts, and the battles between daughter and mother definitely ring true. It touches just a bit on the challenges of growing up in a predominantly white community as a Muslim, but only as part of the story, not the whole point. I liked it for opening a window into a world with which I have almost no familiarity.
