I am a fan of Colin Powell. Not to get political, but he is one of the few national Republicans that I like and whom I feel have integrity. I could say the same about most political figures, so it's not just bashing the GOP.

I thought it was a good book and I enjoyed many of the experiences and the lessons learned that he related. But as a veteran whom also served in the Army when Powell was the Chairman, I kept thinking back to how i wish I had leaders with his experience, wisdom and fairness. I don't think he would survive in the military of today.

A very interesting read from a a very smart man with huge personal integrity.
Colin Powell was left out to dry by the fools that were in power and pulling the strings in the G.W. Bush administration(s).
He tells of his fortunate rise from being a poor black in New York in the 40's and who was instrumental in helping him get to the upper echelon's of American political power.
Well worth the time to read. Some very insightful sayings and anecdotes.

Enjoyed his insights on working in GW Bush administration. Example of striving for personal excellence while respecting others; though i did wonder how his subordinates would write the same accounts.

The title infers that this book is just some variation of a motivational speech but it is more than that. Colin Powell is a very intriguing and charming man with incredible life experience. He uses all of that in writing this book, in giving examples and making lists, and I feel like I know him better now. I even understand the military and Presidents Reagan and Bush better. Powell's rules for decision-making (formed in the military and refined in The White House) make so much sense that I wish I'd used them in my younger years. This wise and charming book is good for anyone but it would be particularly perfect to give to young people graduating from high school. I highly recommend it.
