Ari’s difficulties get worse. It’s not because her opponents have changed (it’s tough to see how you can top a vicious goddess as an enemy) but because she’s gone back—to school. Yikes!

Levity aside, the protagonist now has to struggle with schooling, fighting techniques, connecting with her power and coming to grips with it. The ever-looming threat of her becoming a monster that can kill with a look weighs heavily on the heroine. But the author smartly keeps her from brooding too much; there are other concerns and interests to keep the reader riveted.

The interesting tidbits about ancient gods, spells, battles, etc., add an engrossing layer to the story itself. The other characters, however, suffer a little as being mainly adjuncts to Ari’s story but they manage to hold their own in the few scenes where they make their appearance. This is a good follow-up to the first book and keeps the reader interested enough to see the conclusion to this series.

I likedit but they don't exactly paint a favorable picture for Athena.

Just as good if not better than Darkness Becomes Her. Had some really intense moments. I can't wait to see how the author will end the series!

Ari's story continues in the ruins of New Orleans. As she struggles to rescue her friend and her father she discovers that fighting her heritage is a losing battle. I enjoy the rich surroundings and the original new story set firmly in old mythologies.

I've read the first and second book after my sister recommended it, and it's incredible. It goes a bit into the history of her lineage, the history of the Greek goddess Athena and her madding presume for Ari and her powers.
