A very promising series beginning: the foundations of Arthurian Britain in the final decline of the Roman Empire. We have the roots of the Pendragon, the Lady of the Lake, and Excalibur, told with some of the music back in the tale, and a good balance between the competing religions and climates of magic.

Jack Whyte is one of the best historical fiction writers out there. Great characters and developments move along at a good pace that you don't want to put the book down.

I'm really enjoying this book, and I often don't make it through a lot of fiction. It's sort of a prequel to the Arthur legend. Recommended for historical fiction folks and swords and fighting folks.

Awesome book. I only hope the rest of the books in the series are as fun to read.

An amazing series, this first book is probably one of the best. The characters in this book are complex and compelling; and the story is just amazing
