I didn't think I would like this book -- it sounded super duper angsty. A love triangle? A bad-boy romantic lead? A tear-jerker premise? Come on. But it was actually a very good book. The narrator's voice seems very real -- she engages emotional subjects without becoming trite or overwrought. An excellent choice for the person who likes sad but hopeful stories.

This book was really good, but I feel like it was somehow lacking. Laurel was a good, strong character, especially in her situation. Meg was a good friend to Laurel, but sometimes a little selfish. David was really hot-and-cold, and I never really knew what was going on with him, or what he'd do next. Maybe this book would have been better if it alternated POVs from Laurel AND David? By the end of the book, I still didn't feel like I understood all the characters very well, except for maybe Laurel. I would still recommend this book, but I though it was very similar to Willow by Julia Hoban, so I was comparing those 2 books the entire time. I definitely got a little chocked up during this book -several times, actually- so beware of that. This whole story makes you think a lot about life, and what you'd do if you lost your entire family.

I just finished this book. It's really good. I think Jennifer Castle did a really great job with this book.

Laurel and her family has Passover dinner with family friends the Kaufmans. When they go out for ice cream, Laurel stays behind -- and her family dies in a car accident that leaves Mr. Kaufman, the driver, in a coma. Now Laurel has to pick up the pieces of her life. How can she deal with normal things like senior year of high school, college applications, friendships and crushes, when her life just fell apart? Laurel's ex-childhood friend David Kaufman -- who, like her, was practically orphaned by the accident -- may be able to help her cope. Or throw her life into even greater confusion.
