"Loud music. Pornography. Lighting fires. These are a few of Hesher's favorite things. And they are what Hesher ... brings into the lives of TJ ... and his father Paul ... when he takes up residence in the garage uninvited. Grief-stricken by the loss of TJ's mother, Paul can't muster the strength to evict the strange squatter, and soon the long-haired, tattooed Hesher becomes a fixture in the household. Like a force of nature, Hesher's anarchy shakes the family out of their grief and helps them embrace life once more"--Container.

This movie deserves better development. The boy has the clearest role, yet the other characters are handed overboard scenes. Cut Natalie Portman's cries. Dad needs remedial on brooding.
Hesher doesn't distinguish between borderline play and bullying. For a while, I thought he was a figment. Good to see Piper Laurie. I might know people like this, so better luck and more time on your next project, Susser. VPL has Wholpin 10.

I was not impressed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's destructive nihilistic antagonist, 'Hesher'. I can't fathom anyone not having the stones to oust that dirtbag from the premises the second he started spewing his profane bile around the grandmother. I realize Rainn Wilson's character was in a grieving 'funk', but c'mon, will ya? MAN UP, dude.

the folks who gave this 5 stars must be kidding. Some quirky characters, but the dialogue seemed forced, and the movie tried too hard to shock, or to make an impression, or have some deeper meaning. It failed on all counts with me. I didn't love or hate this movie, was left sort of indifferent.

Hesher: twisted, violent, and irreverent, and a small group of damaged individuals trying in their own way to deal with forces beyond their control. A reminder that everyone has their own story, their own baggage, and we need to pause before we judge too quickly.

It seems people either love or hate the movie Hesher. It is a rather poor movie with only a few funny scenes. There are scenes of brutal behavior with seemingly no consequences. This movie gets a thumbs down.

Very well acted and directed.
Well worth seeing.

This is NOT a comedy, and not appropriate for anyone under 16 years.
The language is horrid and repeats and repeats. Did not make it through the whole movie. I can NOT believe that the library has this horrid bit of gross, tacky film.

A brutal, low rent, coming of age movie. Not for everyone.

The underlying message has merit, but it is belittled by the offensive manner in which it is presented, both in the main character and the language used throughout the film.
