"Cameron Mackenzie is a man who loves only horses and women--in that order--or so his mistresses say. Ainsley Douglas is a woman with a strong sense of justice and the desire to help others--even if that means sneaking around a rakish man's bedchamber. Which is exactly where Cam finds her--six years after he caught her the first time. Only then, she convinced Cam she was seeking a liaison, but couldn't go through with it because of her husband. Now a widow, she's on a mission to retrieve letters that could prove embarrassing to the queen. Cam has no interest in Ainsley's subterfuge, but he vows to finish what they started those many years ago. One game, one kiss at a time, he plans to seduce her. And what starts out as a lusty diversion may break Cam's own rules--and heal the scars of a dark and damaging past..."--from cover, p. [4].

The historical romances that I find most satisfying are the ones that mix a strong family dynamic with the central love story, and this book (third in the Mackenzie brothers series) has that dynamic in spades. Cameron is one of four brothers (two of which have already had books dedicated to them in this series), and watching him interact with his brothers and their wives was one of my favorite things about reading this book. Ashley has a knack for dialogue, and Ainsley and Cam are extremely well-matched -- watching them banter is totally delightful. (Also, as ever, props to her for writing a Scottish family without going too overboard on the Scottish-hero-hates-everything-English trope, which I find tiresome.)

Tis is actually the third book, The Scandelous Marriage if Lady Isobelle is #2. So far this one and the first one are my faves, the second one (Mac's story) was a bit exhausting. Hart's story is #4
