"These messages are meant to be read slowly, preferably in a quiet place. I invite you to keep a journal to record any thoughts or impressions you receive as you wait in His Presence. Remember that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. May He bless you with His Presence and Peace in ever-increasing measure." -- From the Introduction by "Jesus Calling" author Sarah Young
"Do not worry about tomorrow! This is not a suggestion, but a command ... Throw off this oppressive burden with one quick thrust of trust. Anxious thoughts meander about and crisscross in your brain, but trusting Me brings you directly into My Presence ...." --entry for July 15; words are for Jesus' followers, and are related to the day's suggested readings of Matthew 6:24, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and Psalm 62:8"
SummaryAdd a Summary
After several tangible experiences of God's Presence, counselor and missionary Sarah Young began to seek listening to God in prayer, and wrote down what she heard. She made some of those journal entries into this devotional. Each daily reading is 1 or 2 paragraphs long, followed by 2 or 3 scripture passages as suggestions on what to read from the Bible. (Note: In a reference given as, for example, Psalms 46:10, the book name is "Psalms," the chapter is 46, and the verse is 10.) Upbeat and encouraging, "Jesus Calling" is a lovely little book of words that inspire and assist in a walk of faith. A nice little gift book, there is a presentation page (to write who the book is to and from) and an Introduction where Young describes her journey of faith and what led to her writing this book. A CD of music by popular artist inspired by the book is available, as is a children's devotional version. "Jesus Calling" is also available in Spanish ("Jesus te Llama," which means "Jesus Calling," not "Jesus is a llama," just to be clear) ;-)
