Masterfully written, Brennan is excellent at developing characters and bringing them to life. The plot was just okay, and you could see the twist coming from a mile away, but her clever manner of writing makes it, all in all, an enjoyable read.

So I know most people have gone from this series to Unspoken, but I am an expert at doing things backwards. And coming from that series to this one was...interesting. It was so much...heavier than Unspoken. Jamie put in some good quips (And is probably my favourite character in this book), but for the most part it felt tense the whole time. I felt seriously on edge the ENTIRE BOOK. I have yet to decide whether this is a good thing or not. Ordinarily I avoid books that give me the bad feels the whole was pretty engaging. Sarah Rees Brennan definitely gives you full power suspense/tension. For the full review, head to my blog at OboeChica Books (so long and thanks for all the fish).

It was well written, but I didn't like it. I didn't like how there were so many secrets and riddles that you were sent in circles, and I don't like the ending.

I like the author and the witty one-liners she writes, but this book just did not capture my attention. I liked Nick, but the other characters were not very interesting so I probably won't continue reading the series.

Had me hanging on the edge for the whole ride. Plot twist at the end is incredible.

"Ever since their father was murdered, brothers Nick and Alan Ryves have been on the run from evil, power-crazed magicians who conjure demons to do their bidding. According to Alan, the magicians are after the protective charm that the boys' mother stole. But brooding, cold-hearted Nick is starting to suspect that his older brother, the only person he's ever trusted, is lying to him about... well, everything. Full of action, surprises, and vividly rendered characters, The Demon's Lexicon will bewitch Mortal Instruments fans." Next Reads Teen Scene October 2012 Newsletter

I love Sarah, and have followed here through the years from her fanfic days, but I found the whole Demon's series rather disappointing. There's a sense of apathy pervading the book, and I don't just mean because it's told from Nick's point of view. It's more like we get slewed with a bunch of witty one-liners, but never get to the heart of a character. I still don't understand why Nick likes Mae, and frankly would rather he not (she's one of my least favorite characters in teh series). I think Sarah was trying too hard to write something clever and fun, but it ended up feeling empty.

I really loved this book. It pulled me in. I enjoyed it a lot. The pace was good, the plot was excellent, and the cast interesting.

This book (and this series) is just amazing. Alan and Nick have a fantastic brotherly relationship (it gets even better in books 2 & 3) and trust me, the twist ending you won't see coming at ALL. Totally recommended.
