I enjoyed the puzzle and suspense Dolan weaves in his introductory crime novel, and the reader for the audiobook (Erik Davies) does a nice job portraying main character David Loogan. Bits of the story felt cliché, but I gave in and enjoyed the plot for what it was. The storyline invokes the feeling of a classic dark, rainy murder mystery. A good night-time read!

As a police procedural, this book is (unintentionally) laughable. The revolves around a series of murders involving staff and writers at a "literary mystery magazine". Much of the book is very wordy, with dialogue that needs a good editor to trim it into shape. The title is apt, though, sadly, the bad thing that happens is the publication of this book.

This isn't like a story in Gray Streets.
