The remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles, who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.
I think this is a movie that some people will enjoy far more than others. My husband and one of our sons loved this movie a lot. They loved the compelling story, based on true events, about two men with visions trying to battle with restrictions and limitations being placed on their visions by the huge corporation who was sponsoring them. They really enjoyed the racing scenes. They would rate this movie far higher than me. For me, while I liked the David vs Goliath storyline, and I thought Matt Damon and Christian Bale were both very good, I found all the racing scenes kind of tedious and dull. And there were a lot of racing scenes. So my interest would ebb and flow: while I liked the movie OK overall, during the long racing scenes I found myself drifting off to sleep! So, it depends on the viewer. Some people may find this movie riveting, while others might find it a little long.
First off, no matter what the title says, this is not about Ford v Ferrari. That's just the setup. This is Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles v Ford Motor Company. This is a master car builder and brilliant driver versus a massive corporate bureaucracy. As much as I enjoyed Ron Howard's Rush depicting James Hunt against Niki Lauda in the 1976 Formula 1 season, this is a superior film in the way it examines the characters of the protagonists, their demons and their motivations. Carroll Shelby, whose heart will not allow him to race any more, so must turn to car-building, and Ken Miles, the eccentric, but prodigious driver, despised by corporate executives, but loved by Shelby for his pure racing instinct. This film deserves every accolade it gets. There will be people with short attention spans complaining about the length of this movie, but you can ignore them. It needs and deserves every second of its run time.
A movie that keeps you on your toes and shows how cooperate executives can mess everything up. How you need to watch your back with these executives and the one should have had his nose broken with a decent punch to the face and jaw but it never did happen. How the executives will pat each other on the backs in their safe box seats and try to build their egos, reputations, and careers off the backs of others. How they really do not have a clue what goes on but know how to sweat talk the right people. Even when one individual is so much better than the others and when he gets conned in becoming a team player the executives manage to get their golden boy in who is less skilled. I was not disappointed in the movie but thought it was a little tame.
Brought this movie home for the husband but wound up really enjoying it too! Found myself googling all the true stories it's based on after. A fun ride!
If you like cars and car racing, then this is the movie for you. If not, then you might want to make better use of your time. The performances are good and it covers an interesting tid bit of history in American car culture. However, the movie is too long, and full of American exceptionalism. Certainly not Oscar worthy.

I got this for my husband thinking that he likely has a film-testosterone deficit with the types of films we typically watch; I dreaded it honestly.
BUT....
It was so enjoyable and meaningful and exceeded my expectations. Give it a try, most people should find a lot to like about this film.
It is a good movie. A great story, compellingly told.
This is a not bad movie. The racing scenes were the best. Parts of the movie were boring, and it was a bit too long.
Enjoyed this movie. Acting was great.
