Part husky/part wolf, Balto doesn't know where he belongs. He's an outcast in Alaska, except to his true friends--Boris, the Russian snow goose; polar bear cubs Muk and Luk; and the beautiful husky, Jenna. One day, a serious diphtheria epidemic spreads fast among the children of Nome. When a fierce blizzard closes off all routes of transport, there's no way to obtain life-saving medicine ... unless a team of sled dogs can race six-hundred miles through the blinding Arctic storm and bring back antitoxin.

Based on a true story! Not exactly accurate to the historical events, even barring the talking animals, but the movie is well produced and directed (of course it is, it's Spielburg). Trivia: Apart from having his own statue, Balto also underwent taxidermy and now resides in a museum. His brown fur and overall design is actually similar to his movie counterpart.

Inspiring and wonderful story about a dog who doesn't belong because he is half dog and half wolf. But with the help of some good friends (polar bears, a Russian snow goose, and a female husky that he falls in love with), he becomes a hero. Much needed medicine is brought to very sick children. The movie says based on a true story, but very little of it is actually based on the true story. Nonetheless a lovely piece of semi-fictional work. My kids watched it several times.

This Movie is a classic, I really like it, and it's better than some of the junk they make now. Forget dumb cartoons on TV, just get a movie, no commercials.
