Britt-Marie can{u2019}t stand mess. A disorganized cutlery drawer ranks high on her list of unforgivable sins. She begins her day at 6 a.m., because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. She is not one to judge others{u2014}no matter how ill-mannered, unkempt, or morally suspect they might be. But hidden inside the socially awkward, fussy busybody is a woman who has more imagination, bigger dreams, and a warmer heart that anyone around her realizes.

A fable-like offering from the author of A Man Called Ove follows Britt-Marie, a 63 year old woman who first appeared in Backman's My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry, and has just left her cheating husband, as she re-settles in the decaying town of Borg to take over a dilapidated community center. There, she is drafted into coaching the neighborhood's grim children's soccer team, and meets and slowly becomes a part of the lives of her new neighbors, as they becomes a part of hers. Backman delivers a heartwarming story of acceptance, friendship, community and self-discovery with his trademark warmth and wit, and a deep understanding of humanity in a sometimes heartless world.

An unusual atypical plot: a mid sixties woman (who calls herself socially inept) finds herself working for short term in an almost non existent dying village: Borg.

She befriends the young people living there whose collective passion for playing soccer surprisingly becomes a rather slow but profound personal learning experience for Britt Marie.
Tough and tender moments; how do Britt Marie's friendships with the handful of adults develop?

I'd give this novel 3 stars. Swedish author Backman has written many other novels.

As it would seem for me with all Fredrik Backman's books, it takes me a little to get into them. But it is well worth the effort. I would also suggest reading them in order. Certainly not necessary but it flows better.
