When I began reading this book, I was very skeptical of it's "classic" status. However, after having read it, I don't know how I will ever be able to put the novel down. Kit's story is one that shows courage, spunk, and of course, the way the world once was. Every reader should add this to their shelves.

This is one of my favorite books! Along with Tuck Everlasting, Ella Enchanted, and Katherine: Heart of Freedom. I really love historical fiction and the colonial era. This has romance, adventure, it teaches some things about the late 1600's in America, it's entertaining, I couldn't put it down! I highly suggest it!

I think this may be the book that started my lifelong love affair with historical fiction.

I really enjoyed this book, and couldn’t put it down.
It was a good story, while giving a good history lesson on that era and there suspisons.
Kit, an innocent girl, is thought to be a witch for the oddest things.
For example: the fact that she could swim raised suspicion and there never was where she used to live (Barbados).
I think this book was a really good short read, that you get caught up in right away.
If you are looking for a good book to curl up with then this is the one!

Kit arrives unannounced at her relative's home in Puritan Connecticut. As she adjusts to her new life she befriends others that don't fit in. This is a quick read full of straightforward writing and historical details. I couldn't put it down!

No wonder it was a Newbery Award winner, it's very well written. It does a great job of highlighting colonial life and the superstition of that time in an accessible and interesting way. I would say it is as engaging as the Laura Ingalls Wilder books or the Anne of Green Gables series and a similar type of storytelling.

This fantastic book lets us take a rare peek into 17th century life. Worded beautifully by Elizabeth George Speare, The Witch of Blackbird Pond kept me turning page after page.

This is one of the books from my childhood that I re-read from time to time because it made such an impression on me.

Even though the novel is set in Puritan times it has some important messages about the various kinds of treatment of people who are 'different' that are still relevant.

The narrative moves quickly and there are no jarring non-period elements that breaks the willing suspension of disbelief.

1959 Newbery Medal Award winner: A succinct read of the New England Puritan colonial life. Approved for 5th+ grade US History to adult. No useless dialog or pages of descriptions that do not enhance the story line.

If you are looking for comprehension quizzes, you can find them on the Sylvan Learning Center book list web site.

The book is much better than the synopsis on the back cover.
