After A Man Called Ove, which is a masterpiece in y mind, this of course is going to fall short. It’s an older woman this time, so I guess that’s the equal time females get from this brilliant author. The grandma is as interesting and unconventional as Ove, if we’re comparing, but told from her young granddaughter’s point of view, something is gained and something is lost.

Or just a completely different book. This one has a Harry Potter-like land of almost awake story that the grandma makes up, or does she? And I was not here for it at all. Contrived. But characters are what draws you into a Fredrick Bachman book and characters don’t disappoint.

More plot, less attempted suicide, more characters, less complexities than Ove. Would have preferred the author went the Elizabeth Strout route and wrote another book with many of the same characters in Ove, because who doesn’t miss them all?

Fredrik Backman is the sweetest, most empathetic author I have read in a long time. Can't wait to read this one..... Fredrik Backman is one of the most amazing story tellers writing today. I say story teller rather than novelist because this book is the story of a grandmother who saved children and adults and created for her granddaughter an imaginary world. The land of almost asleep fights fears and explains life. When her grandmother passes away, Elsa is sent on a journey of discovery that links all the people in her life. The twists, turns and revelations are wonderful and sad. I highly recommend this author. Kristi & Abby Tabby

I should give this a tissue rating instead of stars! But don't let that stop you from picking it up - it is charming and funny and the protagonist is delightful. And there is a little mystery running through it to keep you reading.

Grandma is a character and when she dies, she leaves instructions for her 8-year-old granddaughter to deliver letters to all the people Grandma has offended. One page you’re laughing, the next page you’re crying. This has more emotion and depth than _A Man Called Ove_. It’s a book filed with interesting characters.

Like Fredrik Backman's other novels, this book is filled with quirky but lovable characters. At times hilarious, and at other times heartbreaking, it takes the reader on a journey of discovery through the eyes of its 7 year old protagonist, Elsa.

It's stories like this that remind us of humanity. Told from the perspective of the almost-eight-year-old girl, the journey Elsa embarks upon will have you laughing out loud, thinking, smiling and engage at a deep emotional level. Use of fairy tale metaphors such as the Land of the Almost awake, along with funny yet appropriate nicknames for the characters, Backman has written a masterpiece, which in my opinion is FAR better than "A Man Called Ove". The author keeps the reader engaged throughout Elsa's journey shedding light not only on her Mother's past, but more importantly Granny who she comes to know far better in spite of her being no longer around. This is a must read for anyone that loves great storytelling. Characters are well developed, pace is perfect while the heart warming humor will bring belly laughs and feelings of Joy!
