I’m not big on detective stories. Those feelings didn’t change much when I got to the chapters of D.D. Warren and her family. Seemed a diversion, especially with her parents’ visit.
I did like the Charlie-story until it started reaching pretty far out there with the ‘coincidental’ sister connection. It all got fairly convoluted with many loose ends.
If you want to figure out who commits the crime, skip the Prologue. This is the third Gardner book where she gives away the ending in the prologue. It is the last prologue of hers I will ever read. If you like to read the last chapter before you read the book, the prologue won't spoil the your read, but for me it ruins the fun of figuring out all the twists and turns. A surprisingly quick read, and the person before me left her bookmark at nearly 200 pages before the end of the story. I guess I am in good company when I say this book was hard to put down.
This book is about strong women who make themselves self-sufficient (no going weak in the knees when a man smiles at them or acting like a hormone drenched tween) and try to deal with their childhood damage (D.D. even faces her parents). The theme is dark, and the pedophiles are scary, but it was still a compelling story.
While on a murder case, D D Warren spots a woman who looked suspicious to her. When she confronts the woman, called Charlie, she finds that Charlie's story is almost unbelievable. Two of Charlie's friends have been murdered on the same date, one year apart. Charlie believes that she will be murdered this year and want D D to solve the case when it happens this year. Meanwhile someone killing pedophiles and leaving notes. I enjoyed this book very much.
Definitely a page turner. Finishing a 400 page book in two days when you can only read after the kids are in bed takes some doing! :-)
Still not a fan of the current trend to jump back and forth between first person and third person narrators but, other than that, this was a good suspenseful mystery.
Still catching up on my Lisa Gardner series slowly but surely. This is #6 in the D.D. Warren series. I like how she is evolving and we are starting to see a little softer side of her. This was a good, fast paced book. Interesting plot of a woman trying to prepare for and prevent her own murder on a specific date. 2 mysteries to be solved plus an unreliable narrator made it more fun and harder to figure out "who done it."
Extremely exciting and suspenseful! I've read quite a number of Lisa Gardner's mysteries and she never disappoints. Detective DD Warren is a pretty hard, driven character, but she softens a bit in this book and that was nice to see. As in all of her books, there is a huge twist at the end.
I love Lisa Gardner's books! All of them are so interesting and kept me reading from cover to cover. They have so many details and are researched so well. I applaud her for creating the characters with such a detail and truth to their role in the plot. The amazing portrayal of where it all takes place makes me feel like I'm there observing from the street corner or forest trail or hospital room. I can't wait for another great story. Thank you Lisa for your amazing creative work.
Good mystery except for a drawn out, disappointing ending. It appears the author was emulating The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo which is a shame, because this is much the better book. The "Girl" books are comic books without pictures where as Catch Me is an intelligent, well written story until the last few pages.
My first Lisa Gardner book. It was a little slow for me at the start until understood the back story. Satisfactory ending with the twist.
Another excellent book by Gardner. An exciting plot and a real page-turner. Couldn't put it down!
Best D.D. Warren Grant yet - kept me on edge of seat whole time - surprising end!!
A great Lisa Garnder Book....very long...but very good...the ending is very surprising and amazng...twisted, as always...
Lisa G is the best. Tied with Lisa J in my estimation. This was really interesting, although, the whole time I was reading it, I thought it sounded so familiar. I had not read it before since it is new. Hmmm.
This was the first book I read by this author. I really enjoyed the book. I'm going to check out more of her work.
Read Lisa Gardner’s latest book called “Catch Me”. This is a mystery thriller right down to the last page. Excellent!
Lisa Gardner is reliably good, and while this certainly wasn't my favourite of her novels, it was engrossing nonetheless. I love her ability to write equally effectively in the first and third person narrative.
I enjoyed this book, it was suspensful and interesting to find out what was really going on. I did think the author cheated a little towards the end of the book, things got a little too easy and convenient. But overall, well worth the read.
