It was really weird for me as I was watching this. Normally, I would have not cared for this movie, but it was so interesting for me to see an Australian movie. I surprisingly found it entertaining.

A memorable anti-war film that gave us a glimpse at what happened to our fallen soldiers. The final shot appears quite harrowing and lets you see the vanity and pity of war.

In a word: disappointing. Meandering, long-winded, with multiple scenes that go nowhere and have no bearing on the overall plot: like the scene in the desert. Doesn't come up again. The scene where Mel Gibson doesn't get into the Cavalry:…

Mel Gibson in one of his very early movies about Australians joining the AU. army and his mates adventures learning to be a soldier in WW 1.

This is very young Mel G. It is the build up to the Great War, how nations are affected. If you want a US shoot up, don't bother. This story follows the tragic fortunes of two Aussie running champions who, caught up i the patriotic…

Jean-Michele Jarre is amazing, but a very odd coupling to this film. Great cinematography in places.

A touching film about friendship, circumstance, and chance (or futility). The period is vividly depicted, from the things (that is, physical objects) to practices (reading Kipling to children before bedtime), to history (a soldiers'-eye…

I was expecting so much more from this one. I just found it so boring for the first 3/4 of the movie that by the time they get to the battle of Gallipoli, I had checked out mentally. This movie shouldn't have even been called "Gallipoli",…

I liked this DVD a lot. It is not good for young children. The war battle scenes are graphic and realistic. It was a non-fiction main character given some minor fiction biographies. If you like historical dramas based on fact, you will…

This is an excellent anti-war movie that should be required watching during the American Centennial of World War I. It is hard to watch the battle scenes, not because they are graphic, but because they are so taunt and put you in the…

Considering I was this nearly 30 years ago...I recommend watching the special features first for a better understanding of this gigantic disastrous blunder when powers still thought wars were fought like the battle of Waterloo or the…

I felt the need to see this film again after watching the film "The Water Diviner". How heartbreaking was the brilliant Peter Weir's film about this epic battle of WWI. It broke my heart today, the same as it did nearly 30 years ago. A…

I first saw this film in the theatre and this film and others introduced America to Australian actor Mel Gibson. The film explores the recruitment and fighting of Australian soldiers that were sent to Gallipoli (Turkey) to conquer the…

Not as good as I remembered, yet it does hold up. The film has some slow parts, but is still a well told story of friends, who enlist to fight in a war and the conclusive battle that is fought.

I saw this movie the summer I graduated from high school in the 1980s, and it haunted me. I was never a fan of Mel Gibson, so it wasn't that. It was a great movie about two men, boys really, my age when I first saw it, who met when they…

It was good. The film can be a bit slow at times - the eponymous battle doesn't actually start till well into the third half of the movie. Quite educational, though.

I enjoyed this very much. Good history. Well presented.
